Mental health nursing leaders from across the world have called for transformative reform to strengthen the visibility, recognition, and leadership of mental health nurses internationally.
Emerging from the Barcelona Mental Health Nursing Leaders’ Summit, the International Council of Mental Health Nurses (ICMHN) has been established to support collective advocacy, international collaboration, workforce development, and policy influence.
The initiative responds to growing global mental health challenges, workforce pressures, and increasing recognition that mental health nurses play a critical role in delivering universal, equitable, and recovery-oriented mental healthcare.
ICMHN will focus on advancing:
- workforce sustainability,
- education reform,
- human rights,
- digital mental health,
- suicide prevention,
- culturally safe care,
- international policy engagement, and
- specialist mental health nursing recognition.
The organisation aims to work collaboratively with mental health nurses, professional organisations, policymakers, educators, researchers, and lived experience leaders globally.
